Screen Printing Taster Class

This is a two-hour basic introduction to screen printing, for those who want a quick overview of printing and would like to walk away with their own custom printed shirt, tote bag, tea towel or poster.

This is a far less technical class than our Fabric Printing for Beginners Class / Paper Printing for Beginners Class. It has been designed as an easy, lower budget option to gift to aspiring hobby printers or as a taster session to treat yourself with before proceeding onto one of our 2-colour printing day classes.*

Unlike our Fabric Printing for Beginners Class / Paper Printing for Beginners Class, completing this Screen Printing Taster Class will not teach you the full set of skills that grant you access to use our rental Print Club facilities. Instead, it’s designed as a fun, quick session, to get you printing a design you’ve always wanted.

*Upon completing our Screen Printing Taster Class, you will be offered the option of coming back to complete our Fabric or Paper Printing for Beginners Class for the discounted rate of $180 per person. This is designed as a bridging option for those who would like to learn the skills needed to qualify for our Print Club Membership.

Next Class Dates:  Thursday 22nd May 6pm – 8pm

What you’ll learn:

  • Differences between printing on different surfaces and items – eg  t-shirts vs. tote bags, tea-towels and placement pieces.
  • Guidelines for selecting screens and squeegees.
  • Ink and squeegee handling techniques
  • An overview of various commercial and DIY printing techniques that can be adapted to home printing.
  • Fabric curing methods.

What to Bring:

Prior to class, you’ll send through a one-colour image of your choice and this will be exposed onto a screen for you. In class we’ll briefly go over the methods used by commercial printers to expose an image onto a screen, before everyone gets a chance to print their design of choice onto a t-shirt, tote bag, tea towel or piece of card.

Send your complete one-colour design to info@bobbinandink.com one week before class starts.

On the day remember to bring clothes you won’t mind getting dirty, or an apron. We’ll be working with ink and chemicals on this day.

You must wear closed in shoes in our workshop. Loose jewellery should also be removed.

We’ll provide all the inks, screens and tools you need to print your choice of a complimentary t-shirt, tote bag, tea towel or poster cardboard. If you’d like to take notes, bring a pen and some paper. Otherwise, relax and enjoy the class. If you’d like to bring your own materials to print onto or you’d like to buy extra pieces, let us know before hand and we can order them in time for class.
